Spatial Design

For my architecture project focused on spatial design, we were tasked with creating an immersive underground experience by manipulating light.

Design Principles I used:

Narrow staircases designed to evoke a quest for light
Uniform room dimensions of 5 x 5 x 3 meters, except for the main room
Each room is offset by a height difference of 1.5 meters
Varied ceiling openings create distinct atmospheres

Site Plan

The chosen site for this project was Schwedenplatz, a vibrant and historically significant location in Vienna.

Texture

I chose two distinct textures for the walls. The first texture is a rough, rugged surface for the main hall, evoking a cave’s raw, natural essence. This texture aims to immerse visitors in an organic and primal environment, highlighting the beauty of natural formations.

The second texture, exposed concrete panels, represents the man-made aspect. These panels provide a sleek, modern contrast to the cave-like ambience of the main hall, symbolizing human ingenuity and craftsmanship. These textures create a dynamic interplay between nature and civilization, enriching the aesthetic and thematic experience.

Both models are made out of plaster.
