about me

Roots and Early Life

Hi, my name is Joseph Greene. My story begins in the multicultural tapestry of Luxembourg, where my parents—an English mother and an Irish father—met and fell in love. Growing up in this small but vibrant country was a unique experience. Luxembourg offered a friendly and safe environment for my childhood, where I enjoyed a strong sense of community and cultural diversity. By the age of ten, I was fluent in four languages: German, Luxembourgish, French, and English.

A Passion for Sports

From a young age, I was passionate about sports. I played tennis, inspired by legends like Andy Murray, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic. Football was another love of mine, and I vividly remember watching my beloved Liverpool team win the historic Champions League final against AC Milan, with my idol Steven Gerrard lifting the trophy. My dad also introduced me to the thrilling world of motorsports by taking me to my first car race in France—the 24 Hours of Le Mans. This sparked a lifelong love for racing and Formula 1, culminating in witnessing Lewis Hamilton’s victory at the Spa Grand Prix in 2015. These experiences fueled my enthusiasm for sports and the adrenaline of competition.

Educational Background

Growing up in the beautiful yet quaint country of Luxembourg, I completed my education, earning a degree in civil engineering. This laid a solid foundation for my technical skills and sparked my interest in architecture. During my studies, I completed two valuable internships that offered practical insights into the industry. My first internship was an eight-week experience on a construction site, where I witnessed the dynamics of building projects firsthand. The second internship, lasting four weeks, was in an architecture office, where I honed the skills I had learned from school.

Academic Pursuits at the Technical University Vienna

In Vienna, I embarked on a new academic journey at the Technical University of Vienna to pursue a degree in architecture. My initial years in the city were filled with exploration and discovery—there was so much to see, from vibrant cultural scenes and stunning architectural landmarks to exciting nightlife and diverse culinary experiences. Coming from a small country like Luxembourg, Vienna was a big playground that I eagerly explored.

One of my early jobs in Vienna was as a Foodora delivery cyclist. Although short-lived, this role sparked a newfound love for cycling, which soon became a favourite sport of mine. It allowed me to explore the city and countryside in new ways and push my physical limits.

New Beginnings, Personal Growth, and Exploring Opportunities

As the years passed, I met someone special who changed my life. This relationship inspired me to take my life more seriously. I started eating healthier, exercising more, and focusing on my degree. Most importantly, I was happy. As my university studies progressed, I decided to start working alongside my academic pursuits at Moser Architects. There, I learned to be detail-oriented while also focusing on the big picture. They helped me improve my 3D-CAD skills and work more efficiently. I also learned how to navigate social dynamics in a big company, especially when managing tasks and executing them.

4M Immobilien

Eventually, I decided to leave Moser to focus on my education and explore other interests, ensuring that architecture was my passion. I took on various jobs, each providing unique experiences. Working for M4immobilien improved my people skills and taught me how to offer clients what they want based on their needs. I learned when to take matters into my own hands and when to play the team game.

C.O.P

As a chef at C.O.P., I discovered a love for food and culinary creativity. The detail and innovation required in cooking reminded me of architecture, as both fields value precision and creativity. It showed me the importance of teamwork and what a well-functioning team can achieve. I learned about various foods and what it means to cook with fresh ingredients—something I still prioritize today.

Certible

Another significant experience was at Certible, a certification company, where I expanded my knowledge of IT. Early on, I realized the importance of being digitally present and fluent. This experience helped me develop a deep understanding of the IT world and improved my approach to people. I guided them and ensured I was available to answer any questions, which made me more problem-solving-oriented practically and logically. My communication skills developed significantly as my responsibilities grew.

Returning to Architecture

After exploring various fields and gathering diverse experiences, I realized nothing excites me as much as architecture. It became clear that I needed to return to my roots and focus on building a career in this field. With my bachelor’s degree completed and while studying for a master’s in architecture, I am more committed than ever to pursuing opportunities that allow me to apply my skills and creativity to architectural projects.

After eight years in Vienna, I am proud to call this city my home. Vienna’s rich architectural history and vibrant cultural scene inspire me, and I am excited to contribute to its ever-evolving landscape. I am eager to bring my vision to life, transforming spaces into functional and beautiful environments that enhance the quality of life for those who inhabit them.
